Yeah, you're right.

Everything to know about SEO is basically on the grapevine these days and when you're name is Google, you'd have a pretty damn good idea of how to rank in your own search engine.

I still think they would be able to gleen some information and models out of Performics but it wouldn't be much (if anything). By the sounds of it, the Performics affiliate system would be something Google might be after.

Well now I've heard it all. Netscape has turned into Propeller, Bluedot into Faves.com and google has acquired a SEO company.

At the end of the day it is not going to matter. They would have acquired it because of the technology not the SEO. SEO practices at the end of the day are pretty much similar and top rankings in competitive niches are achieved by using a very well implemented seo plan.

Only those doing the wrong this or pushing the boundaries will be punished.
Google Adwords already supplies optimisation services for your paid listings.

Hahaha, no worries Nate...

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and it's a process where people build sites to rank well in search engines for popular, targeted key words. In a way, the comment you made on my blog with a link back to your site is part of search engine optimisation. There's a lot of technicalities to it though, so I won't bore you with the details... :P

Anyway the point of my article is that if you were a search engine, wouldn't it be easy for you to make things rank well? If someone hired Google to optimise their site, they could dominate popular key terms. Google won't do that as they have a reputation to maintain, but it's just ironic, I think.
